J8-010 It's cool to see one of these cars doing some serious track work. Adam brought this car from a car yard in 2002, it had previous owners in Adelaide and prior to that, was owned by a couple from Victoria. They painted the car its current colour in 1996, it was originally white.

Wheels are Centre Line Convo Pros, 15x4 up front and 15x8.5 out back. The front end has had a full rebuild. The 343 has been rebuilt with Ross forged pistons, Scat H-beam rods, 292 Comp cam, Crane roller rockers, larger Ferrea valves, ported original rectangular port heads, Edelbrock airgap manifold, 750 HP Holley, MSD dizzy and digital 6 box. Also has custom tri-y headers.904 Torqueflite box, 3000 rpm stall converter. Larger Chrysler radiator with EF Falcon thermo fans. Inside has autometer gauges and B&M pro ratchet shifter.

The car ran 13.8 @ 96mph with the standard 343 and a 100HP shot of nitrous before the engine rebuild. Adam towed the car over to Mildura for the Nostalgia Drags on the 20th May 2007 and ran an 8.06 second pass at 89 mph over the 1/8th mile with the new engine, which would be equivalent to approximately 12.6 seconds and 110 mph over the 1/4 mile.

Adam's car is currently off the road for a full rebuild and hopefully we will see some updates soon.

J8-012 Mark purchased this 1968 Javelin in Perth in 2014, it had been previously resprayed in Ferrari Marenello Red and is in excellent condition throughout. The engine was fully rebuilt by a previous owner, however the Offenhauser twin 4 barrel manifold (dual quad) and matched Edelbrock carbys shown in the pictures have since been replaces with a simpler single 4 barrel carby and intake. The car sits on 245/50 front and 265/50 rear BF Goodrich rubber.

J8-018 Dianne has owned her sky blue 1968 Javelin since 1983. She brought it from a family in Yackandandah who believed they were the 2nd owner. The car had been used daily and even towed the boat to the river for their fishing days out. As a result it was in need of paint, carpets, and a new windscreen. The 343 had had new rings, bearings etc and a cam added as the owner decided that at 100,000 miles it would probably need to be rebuilt. Of course when they pulled the motor down it didn't really it, but as they had bought the new parts they were fitted anyway. The car's debut outing was the 1983 Rambler Car Club Annual Concourse and Jan 1984 it displayed her in the Hot Rod & Custom Show in the Melbourne Exhibition Building.

In an effort to discover more about Javelins and to meet other owners, Dianne placed an ad to form a club/register and in May 1984 the AM Javelin Register of Australia Inc. was born. They are still going strong and have an active membership of around 50 owners across Australia. The Register has listed in excess of 200 Javelins to date and is always on the lookout for more.

Dianne's car is not the only Javelin in the family, her husband and son also have Javelins.

J8-032 Gil recently purchased this car from Gordon in Logan, QLD, who had owned the car for a couple of years after buying it from someone in Melbourne. The car is a very striking with its code38 PPG orange paint and black stripes. It has nice black upholstery and carpets. The engine has been updated to an AMC 360 AMC with a 600 Holley, the gearbox is a 727 Torqueflyte. Gil says that he has been well and truely bitten by the AMC bug.

J8-050 Jon brought this Javelin as a wreck and has rebuilt it from there. The original colour was mustard, but the car was already red when he bought it, so Jon decided to keep it that way. The colour coded bumpers and stripes really suit the look of the car. The wheels are classic 14" x 6" magnums. It's running a 360 with Edelbrock alloy heads, a performer manifold, 850 dp Holley carburettor and a Carter high volume mechanical fuel pump. The cam is a large comp cams hydralic unit. The radiator has also been upgraded to an alloy VZ Commodore unit with electric fans. The driveline consists of a 727 auto with 3000 stall and a Falcon tin hat diff with 3.25 gears that was already in the car when it was purchased.

J8-067 This 1968 Javelin recently had a chage of onwnership and made the move from the east coast to the west coast. Once the car is licenced in WA, Kathy has plans for a few upgrades. This includes replacing the tired factory bucket seats with some recaro items, along with some additional leather trim. The dragways will make way for some weld wheels and the engine may get a bit of a work over with a new cam and some headers.

J8-068 Ian’s Javelin first came to light for AMC collectors around 2000 when it was traded in at Lance Dixon Motors, Doncaster. It was purchased from there by a very astute AMC owner and then had a few years rest, tucked away in a nice shed in country Victoria. Ian then bought it in 2006 and it became a daily driver. The Javelin later appeared in the Fox Footy commercial for the 2007 season (just to jog memories in case anyone does remember seeing a silver Javelin in that ad).

Ian then set about restoring it with a view to keeping it as close as possible to the original but with a few refinements which were the use of US Javelin SST parts to replace the worn out AMI fittings. A big back to bare metal effort found the botched crash repair work done on the driver’s door, a large amount of bog and the damaged front left corner of the car which required three lots of stretching to fix. The Javelin had originally been AMI light blue, then painted two different blues and finally silver in its lifetime before it became it’s present teal colour. How the car looked pre-restoration can be seen at American Parts Depot

Very tired are the words best used to describe the interior and the interior panels pror to restoration. There was a total of 10 speaker holes in the trims and parcel shelf. The panels were replaced with imported SST panels purchased from Doug at American Parts Depot. The rest were given a lovely makeover by the Dash Doctor in Coburg and SST seat coverings were imported from the USA to replace the old AMI ones. Hedman headers replaced the old dog leg exhaust manifolds and it was converted to electronic ignition. The tachometer has also been converted to work with the electronic ignition and the original VDO clock has been restored so it now keeps good time.

The paint colour is now Teal which is very close to the AMC Tahiti Turquoise used on 1968 Javelins. A rare original AMC 1968 AM/FM radio (a $158 option available only in the US back in 1968) has also been fitted into a US Javelin SST radio cradle. An extra cigar lighter has been gained by this addition. A Group 19 chin spoiler has also been fitted to finish off the front.

The Javelin is still regularly driven, weather permitting, and does some of the local car shows.

J9-001 The first 1969 model Javelin off the line in Australia. This car received a full bare metal restoration in the early 2000's and has had the original 343 motor upgraded to a 360 while still retaining a Borg Warner automatic transmission.

The Javelin changed hands once or twice before Daniel picked it up a few years ago, and sadly had been let go a bit in that time. To Daniel's credit, he has got the car back into good running order and has been enjoing cruising around the streets of Perth in it, attending local car events and even taken it for the odd run down the drag strip at the Perth Motorplex.

J9-012 Shane purchased this 1969 Javelin from a gentleman in the town of Allendale, near Mt Gambier in South Australia. The previous onwer had purchased the car back in the 1970's and performed many of the somewhat dated modifications seen on the car in the pictures below.

The car was originally red, but was repainted black some time in the 1980's. The car was last registered in 1987 and has been shed-bound ever since. The previous owner updated the powerplant to a sweet 360 at some stage and the original 343 block was also included with the car. Shane has plans to strip the car back to bare metal and restore it to near factory condition including returning it to the factory shade of red.

J9-025 Rod bought his Javelin from a guy in Somerville, Victoria around 2000. Since then he has fitted the Minilite style wheels and stainless steel chin spoiler. The car has had a respray in its original Signal Red at some stage that Rod says is starting to show its age a little bit. The engine runs well and the auto still works fine. The interior is complete and in great condition. It's a regular driver car, which is one reason why Rod hasn't restored it, he can't bear to not drive it while it's being worked on (I think we can all understand that).

Rod also has a 1974 model Javelin that was imported from Colorado in the USA. Rod purchased the car locally in 2006 and has tidied up the bodywork since then. The 304 engine has been rebuilt to stock specs at some time in it's past and runs nice, it just needs a bit of work on the auto. The interior is nice (as nice as original '70s velour can be!!). It will be a "driver" with a pseudo-TransAm/StockCar type look.

J9-029 This Javelin was purchased from Tasmania in 2006 and was driven across the country to its new home in Perth, Western Australia. The car is and older restoration and is still in reasonable condition overall. It intially received some minor upgrades like new carpets and body rubbers to make it a little more presentable. The original 343 engine has since been rebuilt with some perfomance upgrades and the Borg Warner automatic transmission was updated to 70/71 specs. The factory 2.87 rear gears were also swapped out for 3.54 gears from a Jeep to liven it up a bit.

1970-XK20864 John has owned this nice red 1970 Javelin since 1987 and has restored it with many NOS parts, which he bought back in 1987-1990 when they were a lot cheaper and easier to find than they are now (lucky buggar). The 390 engine has been rebuilt to 0.030 oversize, blueprinted, balanced and port matched etc, it runs strong, producing over 400Hp. The 727 TF has been rebuilt, and the car runs a 3.54:1 diff. John has also fitted a new set of Kelsey Hayes brakes. The AMC Magnum 500 wheels were originally 14"x7", but have been re-rimed to 15"x7". Handling has been improved with the addition of a "Gymkhana” Super Street sway bar set sold by Larry Mitchell from AMX Enterprises in Denver USA.

John has recently bought a NOS 1970 “Edelbrock R4B” intake manifold with AMC part number, which will replace the existing “Edelbrock Performer”. The Performer flows quite well on the 390 engine but tends to run out of steam at around 420HP. The nostalgic Edelbrock R4B intake manifold should be good for up to about 460HP. This should make for one very quick car.

Unknown This very original looking Javelin has been in Tony's wife's family since it was about 12 months old. Tony has stated to do a little bit of maintenance on the car including the fitting of a new radiator (HQ-HZ Holden V8 3 core unit), fan shroud and a bit of ancilary work to the cooling system. This has helped to make the car run a lot cooler. He also has a suspension overhaul planned. The car still has the original purchase book with service tickets up to 12000 miles.

Tony has sent through a bit of an update on the work that he has done to the car, this includes fitting 1972 Javelin ventilated discs and matching calipers to front along with a new original master cyclinder. Upgrading the exhaust with a set of 41mm extractors and 2.5 inch stainless steel pipes. The engine has been tuned properly and is running very nicley now. The auto choke spring was also replaced and the car starts first time every time.
